Your First Tattoo – Tips for a Lifetime Commitment

Your First Tattoo – We’ve all seen them. Those tattoos someone got as a teenager that they are still living with well into their 30’s or 40’s. Maybe it’s a lower back tattoo of stars and swirls (circa 2003), or barbwire around their bicep. Tattoos, just like anything, can be trendy. If you are about to get your first tattoo it can be tempting to go with the status quo and do what everyone else seems to be doing. This is a lifetime commitment, though, so here are some tips to making sure it is a commitment you are ready to make.

  • Take your time– Maybe you saw a cool design on Pinterest and you want to replicate it. To avoid regretting a copy-cat tattoo, ask your artist to give you a temporary of the design. Live with it for a day so that you can be sure you want to live with it for a lifetime.
  • Make it Meaningful– Watercolor tattoos are gorgeous and all the rage right now. No judgement on wanting one. However, don’t just pick a random design because you like the idea. When you have a tattoo that means something to you (whether it is a symbol, quote, date, etc) it is much less likely you will hate it 15 years from now.
  • Do Your Research– Don’t pick any random tattoo artist. This is not an investment you want to do price comparison on. A good artist will be more expensive because he/she has more experience, and better technique. Make sure you ask to see portfolios and look up reviews. The last thing you want is your dream of an intricate tattoo coming out looking like a cartoon character.
  • Follow After-Care Instructions– When your artist tells you not to pick at your peeling skin, believe them. They know what they are talking about. The healing process is an important part of the integrity of the tattoo.

If you think you’re ready for your first tattoo, and you’ve put a lot of thought into it, contact us, we’d love to help you make a meaningful statement.

Blackout Tattoos

Blackout Tattoos: Right For You?

Blackout Tattoos – Getting a tattoo for the first time is a fun and exciting experience, but it requires a careful understanding of what to get. One popular new type of tattoo that has caught the eye of many people getting their first is the blackout tattoo. Are these right for you or should you consider another approach?

Blackout Tattoos Are Intense

A blackout tattoo is literally a thick covering of black ink over a person’s body, often mimicking a piece of clothing. This kind of tattoo creates a bold statement and is also very difficult on the person getting the tattoo. It requires a lot of ink that can be too intense for a first timer.

Their Statement Is Brash

As mentioned above, blackout tattoos make a brash statement. For many first timers, it can be a little too harsh. What happens if you don’t like the sensation of getting tattooed or regret getting one later? You’ll be stuck with a big black spot that is hard to remove.

Blackout Tattoos – Laser Removal Will Take Time

Removing a blackout tattoo will take more time than a normal tattoo due to the heavy concentration of ink. While we know how to use lasers to remove blackout tattoos, we also know that many people getting their first tattoo likely don’t want to go through this process.

In our opinion, the blackout tattoo trend is really cool if you have gotten a few under your belt and know what to expect from the process. Getting one as your first tattoo is probably not a good idea. If you’d like to talk about this topic or others like it, please contact our Tattoo Artists and make an appointment.

Getting your nipples pierced

Getting your nipples pierced

Getting your nipples pierced ?

Nipple piercings are one of the biggest new trends for young women. It’s not hard to see why…they are discreet, but also very sexy. If you’re yearning for the trendiest piercing, there are some things to know before you face the needle.

1. It will hurt, but not as bad as you think.

The thought of getting a needle shoved through their nipples makes many people cringe and grab their chest at the imagined pain. It is definitely a painful piercing, but it’s over in two seconds, so it’s not as bad as most people imagine.

2. They may be sore for a couple of days afterwards.

Many people who get their nipples pierced say they have pain for a few days after the piercing has been done. It’s not a sharp intense pain, but a dull throbbing pain. The piercings may also bleed a little bit and excrete a yellowish crust. Both of these are normal, but the bleeding should not be excessive or last long unless the piercing has been bumped.

3. Aftercare is important.

Nipple piercings require a lot more commitment than most other piercings. They take anywhere from six months to a year to heal, so you need to be ready to take good care of them. They need to be washed with unscented soap and soaked in salt water twice daily. In addition, some women like to wear sports bras, or something that will compress them for the first couple of weeks. You shouldn’t swim in a public pool or open bodies of water for at least four weeks.

4. Your nipples will most likely become more sensitive.

Many have said that immediately after getting their nipples pierced, their sensitivity skyrocketed. While this happens for most, it is important to note that it doesn’t happen for everyone. We all have very different bodies.

5. You’ll feel more confident.

Jut like with any other piercing or tattoo, your nipple piercings will make you feel more confident than ever. There’s nothing like walking around town knowing that you have a couple of hidden piercings. You may feel so confident that you’ll start showing all of your friends.

Nipple piercings are one of the most fun piercings to have. The good news is that if you don’t like them in a couple of years, the holes close up very quickly and leave minimal scarring unlike some other piercings.

Memorial Tattoos

Memorial Tattoos

Memorial Tattoos

Memorial Tattoos by the Skin Factory.

Losing a loved one is a shocking and traumatic experience. It can leave a person struggling to understand what happened for years to come. If you want to honor the memory of your loved one, getting a memorial tattoo is a great way to do it. And here is why.

Tattoos Are Forever

As time passes, we will struggle to remember what our loved one sounded like, the way they acted, and even what they looked like. A tattoo will help you remember them for the rest of your live by providing a strong visual reminder. Tattooing one of their favorite phrases on your arm can help you remember their influence on your life.

Tattoos Are Very Artistic

If you’ve never really considered a tattoo, you might have an idea that they are cheesy or silly. That doesn’t have to be the case. A great tattoo artist is just that: an artist, and one that will honor your loved one by creating a beautiful memorial on your body.

Tattoos Can Be Altered

One of the coolest things about tattoos is that you can alter them slightly over the years. So if you want to add something new to your memorial (such as the name of a new child your loved one never got to meet) you can do so. In this way, you can create a living and changing memorial.

White Ink Tattoos

White Ink Tattoos

White Ink Tattoos

White Ink Tattoos at the Skin Factory, a Las Vegas Tattoo Shop. Some tattoo designs are hard to miss. They’re big, loud, and bold, especially in terms of color. But there’s a unique tattoo trend that makes a statement in an unexpected and subtle way: white ink tattoos.

White ink tattoos, as their name suggests, use a white-tinted ink to achieve their unique look. In normal lighting conditions and on paler skin, they are extremely subtle and less visible than traditional black ink, which is perfect for those who don’t want their tattoo to be the first thing others notice about them. Even so, this more subdued take on tattooing–when done right–can turn heads just the same.

For one, this style is extremely versatile and you have a lot of room to get creative with it. You can opt for typical white ink designs like lace sleeves, wings, or mandalas, or you can put a new twist on old classics like the Sailor Jerry anchors, sparrows, and roses. You can even have a special UV component added into the ink so your tattoo glows under a blacklight.

White ink tattoos can be strikingly beautiful. However, to ensure they turn out that way, it’s crucial that they’re done by a professional. Otherwise, a botched job from an inexperienced tattoo artist could mean your white ink tattoo looks more like a coincidentally shaped scar than a meaningful work of art.

Want to learn more about white ink tattoos? Then don’t hesitate to contact us. Our Las Vegas Tattoo Artists are ready to answer your questions and help you discover the creative possibilities of white ink tattoos for your skin.  Visit the tattoo blog of the best tattoo shop in Las Vegas and learn more about different tattoo styles.  We also Have tips on tattoo aftercare, so your ink looks great for years to come.
